A mid 19th century alarm clock timepiece, in a burr walnut case with a brass carrying handle over a plain rectangular caddy top with straight sides over a 2¾” white enamel Roman dial with outer minute track and Breguet hands, and with a gilt slip around the edge, raised on a plinth base with ebonised cavetto, on three integral feet and housing an alarm bell, the back door opening to reveal a brass backplate with platform escapement with a steel balance wheel and an alarm setting facility, along with a winding arbour, adjustment and alarm winding arbours. French, possibly by Victor Athanase Pierret, circa 1840.
Condition: Excellent, the clock is in very good condition with no damage to either case, dial or movement, the clock has been fully serviced and overhauled and is in excellent working order. The clock is supplied with a key. The attribution to VAP is down to the style of the clock and the type of movement.
Setting the alarm: the alarm is set thus: first, fully wind the narrow arbour found at the lower left of the backplate, then set the time. If you are setting it at eleven pm, and wish it to sound at seven am, set the indicator at eight (eight hours from the current time) and it will ring at seven.
