This item has been sold.

A fine mid 19th century bracket clock, in the 17th century style with a gilt brass basket top with a swing handle, and with four gilt brass pineapple finials over an ebonised case with moulded cornice and with gilt brass side panels and mounts to the door, on crisply cast gilt brass bracket feet, with a silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals in black with an outer minute track, and marked PAYNE & CO 163 NEW BOND STREET, LONDON around the top, with a strike/silent selector lever above and with a matted gilt centre and with pierced blued steel hands and putto mask spandrels, to an eight day twin fusee movement marked Payne & Co, New Bond Street to the backplate, a retaining screw for the pendulum and striking the hours on a coiled gong. English, circa 1860. Supplied with two door keys and a winding key.

Condition: Overall, very good. The case is in good condition with a good glossy finish to the ebonising, and with most of the gilding remaining. There are a couple of minor splits to the surface of the case but nothing significant. The movement has been fully serviced and overhauled, and it is in full working order. The gong has a good rich sound but is not obtrusive.
