A late Victorian oil painting on canvas of a coastal scene, by Allan de Swinton Spooner (1855-1901), the foreground with small boats and figures on a shingled beach with lobster pots, and with sailing vessels and other craft drawn up to the shoreline, and with hills, cliffs and other sailing boats in the background, frame in a gold painted frame with shell corners. Welsh, circa 1880.
Canvas size: 51 x 76.2 cm (20” x 30”)

Condition: Overall very good, the painting is in good condition with no paint loss or damage to the canvas, the colours appear fresh and reasonably bright, the frame is probably the original and may have been painted gold at some point later, but certainly not recently.

Allan de Swinton Spooner was born in Wales in 1855 and died in 1901. He appears to be known for painting rural and coastal scenes such as this one.
