A late 18th century Dutch mahogany chest of drawers, the top with serpentine sides and front and with barber pole stringing to the edge in boxwood and ebony, repeated on the drawers, over a bombé body with four long graduated drawers each with elaborate neoclassical brass handles with ram’s masks and foliate motifs around a vacant oval escutcheon and brass lock surround, on a cavetto plinth and raised on ogee bracket feet. Netherlands, circa 1780.
Condition: Overall very good, the chest is in good condition and is solid and robust, the drawers have had their runners upgraded and run smoothly, there are a couple of historic splits to the sides which are now stable and have been filled, the inlays are all present, the handles are all present and appear to be the originals, overall the piece has a great appearance with elegant proportions and pleasing colour and patina.
