A Fine Victorian Mahogany Bracket Clock by J W Benson

This item has been sold.

A fine mid Victorian bracket clock in a mahogany case with brass inlay with a two train fusée movement striking the hours and half hours on a gong, made by J W Benson at their premises at Ludgate Hill in the City of London. The case is topped with a fluted pagoda dome over a moulded pediment, and the front is inlaid with cut brass. The silvered dial is decorated with scrolling foliage and lilies, and bears the makers name above the centre. To each side is a pierced arched sound panel with silk lining, and the whole stands on gilt brass bracket feet. The signed movement is an eight day twin fusée running on chains with an anchor escapement, and has a heavy bob pendulum with a screw in hold fast (which is a replacement).
