A George III Mahogany Knife Box

£950

A fine George III mahogany knife box.

A fine George III mahogany knife box, the hinged sloping top over a shaped front and with a silver oval cartouche engraved with a crest, and with tulipwood crossbanding with ebony and boxwood stringing, repeated on the box below and with silver lock escutcheon and lifting handle, opening to a fitted interior with slots for spoons, knives and forks, and inlaid to the inside of the cover with boxwood and ebony stringing around a six pointed star. English, circa 1780.

Condition: Overall very good, the box is in very good condition with no splits or cracks, the interior is complete and in excellent condition, there is a loose piece of wood inside the back section but this doesn’t appear to be from the box itself. Overall the box has a lovely feel and colour, with a great patina and grain.
