A Late 19th Century George II Style Walnut Side Chair

£675

A late 19th century walnut side chair in the George II style.

A late 19th century walnut side chair in the George II style, the shaped backrest with elaborately carved swan neck cresting rail with scrolling terminals, harebells and floral finials, and with a central splat with carved detail and caned panels either side to a stuffover seat with old needlework cover and on cabriole supports with scrolled and gilt knees and Braganza feet, and united with an exuberantly carved H stretcher. English, circa 1880.

Condition: Overall very good, the chair is solid and robust and can be used on a regular basis. There is a small hole near the bottom of the right hand caned panel otherwise the caning is sound; the seat has what is probably the original cover on it, which is in reasonable condition with some wear to the piped edge but the needlework itself is sound. Overall the piece has a lovely appearance and patina with a rich warm colour.
