A Louis XVI Provincial Chest of Drawers

£5,950

A large Louis XVI chest of five drawers in walnut.

A large Louis XVI chest of five drawers in walnut, the rectangular top with moulded edge and breakfront corners over five drawers, each with oval brass handles with decorative backplates and with a central lock escutcheon, and with fluted corners and panelled sides, on fluted tapering supports. French, probably Normandy or Loire Valley, circa 1780.

Condition: Overall very good, the chest is structurally sound and stands well, the top is loose but is heavy enough for this not to be a problem, the drawers run smoothly and the handles appear to be the originals, the piece has excellent colour and the wonderful patination that one associates with eighteenth century furniture.
