A fine mid 19th century French carriage clock in a gilt brass Gorge case.


A fine mid 19th century French carriage clock in a gilt brass Gorge case with finely engraved decoration, with a swing handle over a bevelled rectangular glass over an engine turned oval aperture to the English lever escapement, and with a white enamel 2” dial with Roman numerals in black with outer minute marker, Breguet hands and marked in black below the dial DENT 61 STRAND, LONDON, with an eight day two train movement striking the hours and half hours on a gong with a repeater function, the silvered platform stamped JS in a chamfered rectangle. French, by Joseph Soldano, for the British market, retailed by Dent, circa 1870. Supplied with a key.

Condition: Excellent, the case is in extremely good condition with the gilding almost intact, the dial is free from damage or blemishes and all the glass plates are perfect, the movement has been fully serviced and overhauled and is in good working order and the platform is the original. The gong strikes with a pleasant sound, and the gilding on the case is wonderful with a beautiful rich gold colour.
