Nathanaël Lemaître (1831 Luneray (Seine-Maritime) – 1897 Geneva). A mid 19th century oil painting on canvas of a sunlit Alpine valley with cattle grazing, with a rocky foreground and with a pond and a farmhouse with fir trees and with a distant view of mountains, in a wood and gesso gilt frame. Swiss, circa 1870.
Canvas size: 64 x 100 cm (25” x 39.5”)
Condition: Overall very good, the painting is in good condition, with a little crazing to some areas of the paint, but appears to be stable, the colours are good and vibrant, and the frame is in very good condition with the exception of one small piece of moulding missing from near the lower left hand corner. Overall the painting has a pleasing, warm aspect to it and shows a delightful view of the Alpine summer.
