A fine mid Victorian cut crystal claret jug with silver mounts.


A fine mid Victorian cut crystal claret jug with silver mounts, the hinged cover with a cast rampant lion holding a shield with vacant cartouche, on a domed top chased with vine leaves and bunches of grapes tied with bows and with a cast border, over a collar richly chased with Bacchanalian masks surrounded with fruiting vines and with a spout with vine leaf decoration and with a handle naturalistically cast with bark effect, on a plain crystal body with a securing ring to the base of the handle and with a star cut base. Capacity circa 900 millilitres.

Condition: Excellent, the piece is in very good condition, with no damage to either the silver mounts or the crystal. The crystal is bright and clear, and the silver has a lovely rich colour. A wonderful example of high Victorian silver.
