A Pair of Early George III Old Sheffield Plate Tea Caddies

£695

A rare pair of early George III Old Sheffield Plate tea caddies.

A rare pair of early George III Old Sheffield Plate tea caddies, each with a rectangular pull-off cover with a finial over a bombée shaped body richly chased with scrolls and floral motifs with on one side a cartouche engraved with a crest of a seated hound, on cast scrolling feet and finished to the underside with silver wire. English, circa 1765.

Condition: Overall very good, each caddy has a small amount of plate wear with a little copper showing through, but overall these are in very good condition and have a lovely colour and patina. It is unusual to find such items from the time in Old Sheffield Plate – at the time that these were made (i.e. prior to 1784) they would normally be made of silver.
