A pair of mid 19th century mahogany elbow chairs in the manner of George Hepplewhite, the reeded back with serpentine toprail and with a pierced vase shaped splat with an anthemion to the centre over trailing harebells, and with elbows carved at the end with a small scroll, a stuffover seat on square reeded supports with small brackets carved with scrolls and with an H stretcher. English, circa 1840.
Condition: Overall very good, both chairs are solid and robust and are comfortable to sit on. One has had a small repair to the lower part of the back splat, and both have been recovered using a pale green material by Colefax and Fowler. The chairs have good colour and a pleasing patina.
