Condition: Excellent, the painting is in very good condition with no damage, the colours are excellent using a slightly muted palette of warm colours which remain fresh, the canvas is in good condition and the frame, which is the original, is in excellent condition. Overall the painting is a charming, timeless evocation of a traditional scene; fishing vessels on a beach, waiting for the next tide.
Helmuth Reuters was born in Düsseldorf in 1913, the son, and later pupil, of Wilhelm Reuters (1874-1958), and established landscape painter. He continued his training at the prestigious Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts between 1935 and 1939. Working principally from Düsseldorf-Kaiserwerth he travelled extensively, making several trips to Italy as well as France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, and developed a style specialising in atmospheric and traditional European landscapes and marine paintings.
