A good set of four late 19th century painted salon chairs in the Regency style, comprising two elbow chairs and two side chairs, painted black with extensive gilt decoration, each with a square back with a double X within, over a broad rounded caned seat and on slender turned tapered supports, and each with an ivory silk covered squab with sprigs of flowers and pink piping, secured with buttons. English, circa 1890.
Condition: Excellent, all four chairs are in excellent condition, with no paint loss or gilding loss, each chair is sturdy with no undue wobbling, and each caned seat is sound. The squabs are all in very good condition with no marks or tears.
