A fine early Victorian honey oak pedestal bookcase.


A fine early Victorian honey oak pedestal bookcase of architectural form, the rectangular top with carved moulded edge over carved corbels at each corner and a frieze drawer with bas-relief scrolling foliage around a lion’s mask holding an iron handle in his mouth, over a hinged glazed door with rounded corners and egg and dart carved border and with Corinthian columns to each side, on a plinth base, fitted with one shelf. English, circa 1845.

Condition: Overall very good, the bookcase is in very good condition with no obvious marks or damage, the drawer slides well and the door closes correctly, and is supplied with a key. Overall the piece has a pleasing warm colour and a strong appearance, especially given its size.
