An early 18th century oak coffer, the plain hinged top with iron strap hinges over a channel carved rail with a brass lock escutcheon with two panels below carved with low relief double arches decorated with a repeating leaf pattern, between channel carved uprights incorporating the supports, and with inside the lid a compartment for candles, and having plain sides. English circa 1700.
Condition: Excellent, the chest is in excellent original condition, the inside of the cover has probably been braced some time later but otherwise the piece is in good solid condition. The colour and patina are very pleasing.
