An early 19th century oil painting on canvas of two cows resting in front of a farmstead, with a small patch of banked ground with a tree and shrubs, and with a thatched cottage to the right under a partly clouded sky, signed lower left W Fristan, and framed in a later carved giltwood frame with a leaf border and a broad matted centre and an inner line of harebells. English circa 1830, the frame circa 1880.
Canvas size: 25 x 36 cm (10″ x 14″)
Condition: Overall very good, the painting is in good condition with no paint loss, the colours are bright and reasonably fresh, and the canvas has been relined at some point fairly recently. The frame is in overall good condition with a few very minor losses to the gilding, commensurate with its age.
