An Early 20th Century ‘Medici Riccardi’ Bronze Horse’s Head

£975

A fine example of the Hellenistic equine bust.

An early 20th century patinated bronze horse’s head, copied from the ancient Greek or Hellenistic original in the National Archeological Museum in Florence, the head realistically drawn in the style of the time with strongly expressed facial musculature, neck ridges as well as small ears and trimmed mane, the jaw open and the whole set on a rectangular ebonised metal socle with a moulded edge. Italian, 1930’s.

Condition: Excellent, the piece is in very good condition with no damage or marks to the metal, the patination is excellent and the casting reflects a faithful reproduction of the original. The socle has had a small area of paint loss to the front, consistent with age, however otherwise it remains in very good condition. Overall the piece has a striking appearance and great proportions.
