A large early 19th century oil painting on canvas, of British ships after a naval battle depicting a French and a British warship engaging with each other in the left foreground on a choppy sea, with lifeboats rescuing mariners to a British warship in the right, foreground, and with more warships in the background, under a partly cloudy sky, English, circa 1820, and in a contemporary swept and fluted frame with a leaf and dart border.
Canvas size: 45 x 62 cm (c. 18” x 24”)
Condition: Excellent, the painting is in very good condition and has recently been relined and cleaned, and the frame has been restored. Overall it has an excellent antique appearance and strong presence, and is ready to hang.
