An Early 19th Century Old Paris Mug

£195

An early 19th century ‘Vieux Paris’ mug.

An early 19th century ‘Vieux Paris’ mug, the cylindrical body with applied handle and with a broad band of rich gilded decoration with scrolling leaves and anthemions, framing a painted panel of figures in a rural setting with a gothic ruin (possibly Tintern Abbey) and with trees under a blue sky, marked underneath ‘In South Wales’. French, circa 1820.

Condition: Excellent, the mug is in very good condition with no chips or cracks, and the gilding is almost all present with very little wear. The painted panel has nice bright colours and overall the item has a very pleasing appearance with wonderfully rich, exuberant gilding.
